Dunbar, Olive Fisher –
We regret to announce the passing of Olive Fisher
Dunbar on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at the Highcrest Nursing Home,
Sherbrooke, NS after a short illness. Born on October 24,
1929 in Antigonish, NS to late Roderick Smith and Ruth (Fisher) Dunbar
of Mulgrave, NS.
Olive grew up in Mulgrave and attended Logie School and then
took a business course at The Business College in New
Glasgow. She was employed at the Dock Yard in Halifax as a
clerk with the D.N.D. After retirement she returned to
Mulgrave to live with her step-mother Priscilla Dunbar in the family
home, where she resided until March of this year. She then
was in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish and St.
Mary’s Hospital, Sherbrooke until May 2021 when she entered
Highcrest Nursing Home in Sherbrooke, where she received exceptional
care from Staff and Doctors.
Olive is survived by her half brother; Donald R. Dunbar and
his wife Yvonne, Sherbrooke, NS and the following nieces and nephews;
David (Katie MacDonald), Antigonish, Carolyn (Grant) Peters, Rod,
Arlene (Cory) Worth, all of Sherbrooke, NS, Linda (Ashley) Sangster,
New Harbour, NS, and Ruth (Bruce) McCowan of Victoria, B.C. and
several grand nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and step-mother Olive was predeceased by
her brother Douglas Everett Dunbar and sister-in-law, Flora
Dunbar.
Olive was a devoted member of Trinity United Church, Mulgrave
and an active member of the Mulgrave Museum Committee, Mulgrave
Seniors Club, Order of the Eastern Star Armcrest Chapter, Halifax,
Faith Chapter, Mulgrave and recently Celtic Chapter, Blues Mills, Cape
Breton.
She had many friends in the community who were kind to her as
she was to them.
Visitation will take place on Friday, December 3 from 2-4
p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in Mulgrave and Area Resting
Place. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 4
at 2 p.m. in Trinity United Church, Mulgrave with Rev. Derek
Ellsworth officiating. Burial to follow in Trinity United
Church Cemetery, Mulgrave.
Proof of double vaccination and photo I.D. are required to
attend the visitation and funeral service. Masks are
mandatory.
Donations in Olive’s memory may be made to Trinity
United Church, Mulgrave, Mulgrave and Area Resting Place or a charity
of choice.
