Olive’s Obituary
YOUNG, Olive Evangeline ~ Age 89, of Carleton Corner, formerly of Port Lorne, Annapolis Co., passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, in Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on July 7, 1931, in East Arlington, Annapolis Co., she was a daughter of the late Gerald and Emma (Slocomb) Hines.
Olive was a retired telephone operator with Maritime Tel & Tel, loved to socialize and was very much a people person. She was always active in community affairs. Olive was a member of Port Lorne Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Port Lorne Baptist Church and because of a love of singing was a member of the church choir in both Port Lorne and Bridgetown Baptist Churches. She had been a member of Atlantic Baptist Women (Dominion Life member) and Bridgetown Baptist Women’s Fellowship. Olive loved time spent quilting and reading, and treasured time spent with her family.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are daughters, Evelyn (Russell) Hannam, Carleton Corner; Deborah (David) Sabine, Wilmot; son, Harold (Cindy) Young, Halifax; grandchildren, Megan, Melanie, Maryelle, Jennifer, Michelle, Angela, Nicholas and Lucas; great grandchildren, Hannah, Brandon and Sam, Abigail, Paige, Benjamin and Autumn, Ariana and Lauren, Haven and Hanno; sisters-in-law, Rose Hines, Middleton; Lorraine Hines, Kingston; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Robie G. Young; a son in infancy; sisters, Elizabeth (Elliott) Brown; Annie (Maurice) Pierce; brothers, Maynard and James Hines.
Due to public gathering restrictions a private service by invitation will take place in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Rev. Brian Wallace officiating, with interment in Fundy View Cemetery, Port Lorne. A live webcast of the service will be available for viewing on the funeral home website at 1:55 p.m., AST, on Friday, February 12, by selecting the “live stream” option at the top of the home page.
A time in celebration of her life will take place at a later date when there are less restrictions in place.
