Greene, Nora
Passed away peacefully, on International Women’s Day Mar. 8, 2021, in her 97th year. Nora was the daughter of the late Flora and James Cole. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur and her sister Evelyn.
Nora believed in service to her community – “If we all do a little, a lot can be accomplished.” A humble woman who shied away from public recognition, she was loved and respected by all those who knew her. Her love of golf and curling led to her active participation in the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club where she forged strong and lasting friendships. Nora also served on the executive of the Ottawa District Golf Association. Her love of the outdoors and her nurturing temperament manifested themselves in a passion for gardening. She shared her knowledge willingly and was a mentor to numerous neophytes. The offshoots from her perennials can be found in gardens across the city. Volunteerism was a fundamental part of Nora’s existence. In addition to her contributions to sports organizations and her church, she was a lifelong hospital volunteer, first in Halifax and then in Ottawa, serving for 50 years at the Civic Hospital and Ottawa Heart Institute. Nora was a leader who inspired fierce loyalty in her team. Through her meticulous attention to detail, she demonstrated how to do a task well and with pride, always leading by example. Her gentle touch and caring demeanour brought comfort to thousands of hospital visitors in her many decades of service. As the founder of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Auxiliary, she established a high standard for quality service to the public and has
left a lasting legacy of care and compassion. She was a woman of strength, integrity and wisdom and will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Nora leaves to mourn her daughters Gretchen, of Milton, and Gayle, of Ottawa.

Death notice for the town of: Ottawa, Province: Ontario
I did not have the chance to meet this lady in person, I did, however, get to experince some of her generosity and human touch. Nora had helped me by donating a lot of her home furniture to support my family who moved from Syria as refugees.
May her soul rest in peace!
My condolences to her daughter, family and friends!
