Nora Agnes Piche nee Welsh March 20 1940 March 27 2021

Nora’s Obituary
On Saturday March 27, 2021 Nora once again heard Whit say “I love you. You are the only bright spot in my life” as she was reunited with Whit along with her family and friends.
On March 20, 1940 Martha and Henry Welsh brought Nora Agnes into the world while living in Kearns, Ontario. Nora joined her big brother Carl and later the family moved into Kirkland Lake. The Welsh family grew to include Nora’s sisters June and Lynn. The Welsh family resided at 31 Premier Ave in Kirkland Lake for the majority of their lives and to this day the house still belongs to a member of the family.
Nora’s many talents included sewing, fishing, hunting, and painting but was best known for her pastry skills. Only a select few friends and family were lucky enough to have pastry lessons by Nora. Family and friends always looked forward to Nora’s prized winning butter tarts and pies.
On April 22, 1960 Nora married Whitford Piche at St. Peter’s On the Rock in Kirkland Lake in a single ring service with 2 witnesses as per Whitford’s instructions. Nora and Whit resided in Chaput Hughes for their married life until moving to the lake.
Nora’s fishing skills she inherited from her father. In Nora’s early twenties while fishing at Mall Lake, in Esker Lakes Park, Nora caught the “trophy Trout” taken on a Maryanne streamer as the Northern Daily News reported weighing in at seven and one quarter pound one Saturday night. It dressed at five pounds 14 ounces. This fish was later carved to specifications by Whit and painted by Nora when they formed their crafting passion “Just Two”
As a young woman, Nora spend her summers in southern Ontario picking fruit. This money helped her to purchase her very first Singer 301 sewing machine. Nora to this day still has this machine which Singer stopped making for residential use after 1 year because it could stand the test of time. Nora also taught school, worked for WCB and worked promoting the Town of Kirkland Lake later in her life. Many days spent helping with KL Carnivals and Toronto Sportsman’s shows were under her belt. Her most rewarding job was working at ARC Industries with the developmentally challenged adults. To this day our family still have ceramics or rugs which were crafted by these folks. It was Nora’s mission to teach these folks a life skill that they would look forward to come to work every day and develop.
On Sept 9, 1963 Nora and Whit brought a baby girl into the world named Brenda Lee. Nora loved to sew so much that Brenda grew up always having homemade clothing for most of her young life. There was a time when Brenda finally said to her mom “Can I please have some store bought clothes?” Nora on numerous occasions throughout Brenda’s adult life tried to teach her to make pastry to which Brenda always replied “why do I need to make pastry with you around?’ Brenda is now on her own in the pastry division but did inherit the secret recipe.
In 1990 Nora and Whit moved to their home on Long Point Lake. There they enjoyed hunting, fishing, blueberry picking, their garden and started “Just Two”. This became a passion for them and many lucky people were gifted their projects. Whit was in charge of the woodworking and Nora did all the painting.
In 2002 Nora and Whit sold their place at Long Point and moved to Kitchener to be closer to Brenda. They made one last move in 2012 to Paris, Ontario where they made new friends and enjoyed their home and the community they lived in. Nora always said how fortunate they were to have found their place in Paris with all their great neighbours.
Nora was close to Brenda’s partner Attila and she told him last week how grateful she was that he came into her life. Attila would always pick Nora’s brain about the Kirkland Lake area, Tri towns and about family history. If she didn’t know the answer Nora would google it and get back to him. Nora was always grateful for everything Attila would do for her to make her life easier. Nora also enjoyed the time spent with Attila’s kids Taylor, Sydney and Carter and enjoyed hearing about their lives.
Nora frequently travelled back to northern Ontario with Brenda and Attila to spend time with friends at Long Point. Her last trip was in September of 2020 for a week’s stay. You can’t take the north out of the girl!!
Nora closed her eyes for the last time in the early hours of the morning to be reunited with Whit and said goodbye to all those she knew. She leaves behind Brenda and Attila and his children as well as her sisters June and Lynn and numerous nieces and nephews.
Always remember those we love don’t go away they walk beside us every day unseen, unheard but always near, still loved still missed and very dear. Brenda and Attila ask you to remember Nora and raise a glass because goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end, they simply mean I’ll miss you until we meet again!!
In accordance with Nora’s expressed wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. In Nora’s memory, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
