Obituary of Nick Vihos, New Waterford
It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Nick Vihos, 82, of New Waterford, formerly of Milos, Greece, on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at home.
Born in Milos, Greece, Nick was a son of the late Stephanos and Katerina (Mathioudakis) Vihos.
Nick immigrated to Canada in 1954. He was well known in the community of New Waterford as owner/operator of Nick’s Shoe Repair for 55 years.
Surviving are his wife, Irene (Thanos) and son, Stephanos ‘Steve’, New Waterford; sister, Maria Loukianou, Greece; nephew, Steven (Sharon) and their son, George Vihos, Calgary; special and life-long friends, Teddy and Eva Vamvounis, Glace Bay; goddaughter, Irene McDougall, Glace Bay; a large number of relatives and friends in Greece and Canada.
Nick was predeceased by brothers, Emmanuel and George; sisters, Helen and Paraskevi; brother-in-law, Lucas Thanos and mother-in-law, Flora Thanos.
Visitation will be held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford on Tuesday, September 28 from 3 – 6 p.m. The Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, September 29 at 11 a.m. in Sts. Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Fr. Panagiotis Maropoulos officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. Limited seating in the church with masks and social distancing mandatory at both the visitation and funeral mass. Donations can be made to the Sts. Anargyroi Church in memory of Nick.
