It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our loving Wife, Mother, Aunt, and Grandmother after several years with dementia on March 8, 2021 in Nelson, BC. She was 85 yrs old.
Nancy is survived by her husband Bill of 52 years, daughter Pennie and son Graham (Christina), 7 grandchildren; Kristen, Jarrod, Dalton, Isaac, Coen, Eva and Oliver, 2 great grandchildren; Nolan and Hayden, brother Keith Galbraith in England, as well as countless nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her Mother Edith and Father Gilbert.
Nancy was born in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire, England on June 28, 1935. After completing her nursing training Nancy went to Swift Current, Saskatchewan with her friend Florence and embarked on a series of adventures in their trusty VW Beetle, which took them as far south as Mexico and even along the ice roads up to Fort Chipewyan. Nancy practised Nursing and midwifery throughout the North including Fort Chipewyan, Fort Good Hope and Cambridge Bay, where she met Bill. They married June 29, 1968 and moved to Whitehorse, Yukon. In 1979 Nancy and family moved to the Nelson area from Prince Rupert and has resided there ever since. Nancy spent her time dedicated to others and worked as Home Care Nurse in addition to volunteering for many organizations including Lady Lions, Meals on Wheels, and the Suicide Hotline. In 2017 she was recognized as Volunteer of the Year with Telus Ambassadors.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Macintyre for the years of care she gave Nancy, Columbia View Lodge for her care from March-August 2020, Dr. Janz and especially the staff at Mountain Lakes for their loving care while she was at Mountain Lakes. You not only cared for her you cared for her family as well.
It is fitting that she died on International Women’s Day because she was an inspirational woman who had a great sense of adventure and generous nature.
Due to the challenging times a private family Memorial will be held at the Nelson Memorial Park. We will hold a Celebration of Life later in the year when it is safe to do so. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC and the BC Cancer Society.
