Obituary
Our beloved Myrna passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, August 21, 2021.
Myrna grew up in Calgary, daughter to William and Ernestina Symons. She attended St. Mary’s High School and was part of the Sigma Delta Kappa, enjoying lifelong cherished friendships and where she ultimately met the love of her life, Bill Meyer. As a youth, Myrna enjoyed skating, swimming, sewing and playing the piano. After high school, she attended the Holy Cross Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1955. She loved her career and specialized in labor and delivery nursing. She married Bill Meyer on November 15, 1955, and soon after they moved to the family farm in Hanna, Alberta. Not long after giving birth to her first son Michael, they made the decision to move back to Calgary and she devoted her life to being the very best wife and mother to their five children, and from there developed her love of wine and a quiet book. Myrna returned to nursing in the Oilfields Hospital in Black Diamond for a few years, then she joined Bill and young Will in the family business. After retiring in 1998, she and Bill enjoyed traveling in their RV’s across America, and extensive cruising around the world.
Myrna is survived by her devoted husband Bill; their son Michael Meyer (Chris) three grandchildren, Matthew, Hannah, Emma; daughter Catherine Kett (Brian), grandson Dustin Percival (Nicole), great granddaughters Brooke and Sage; son James Meyer (Tammy), granddaughter Amber; daughter Patty Lowe (John), grandsons Jared and Kai, granddaughter Taija; son Will Meyer (Cindy); and her loving younger brother William Symons (Lynn). Myrna is predeceased by her father William Symons, and mother Ernestina Symons.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Community (800 85th Street SW) on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 12:00pm with The Rev. Raul Hernandez and The Rev. Jack Bastigal presiding as the concelebrants. Only immediate family will attend the graveside internment at St. Mary’s Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Elbow Valley Community Hall (100 Misty Morning Drive) for those who wish to attend.
