Obituary of Muriel Holmes
It is with great sadness that the family of Muriel Bernice (Simms) Holmes of Saint John, wife of the late Gordon Holmes, announce her passing which occurred on Monday, August 31, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on December 6, 1930 in Digby, NS, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Myrtle (Miller) Simms.
Muriel was employed with T.S. Simms Brush Factory for many years. She was a member of Crescent Valley Gospel Centre, enjoyed playing cards, bingo and cooking.
Muriel is survived by her daughter, Norma Holmes of Toronto, ON; grandchildren, Maria, Lisa and Stacey; great-grandchildren, Tiara and James; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Anthony “Tony” ; brothers, Vernon, Harold and Vincent; as well as sisters, Evelyn and Margaret.
The funeral service will take place from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 2:00 PM. Due to COVID-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings by the Government of New Brunswick, all those 12 and older attending the service will be required to show proof of vaccination and a piece of government-issued ID, or proof of medical exemption. For those who are unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed and can be viewed by visiting Muriel’s obituary on Brenan’s website. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Crescent Valley Gospel Centre and online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
