Obituary of Muriel Elizabeth Morine
Muriel Elizabeth (Smith) Morine, 86 of Avonport, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2021 in the Valley Regional Hospital with her loving family by her side. Born in Grand Pré, she was the daughter of the late Bower and Leona Smith.
Muriel adored life and what it had to offer. For her entire life, she loved fishing and could sit for hours on end even if she didn’t catch anything. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling and as time went forward, she added knitting and rug hooking into her favorite hobbies. She owned and operated the Grand Pré Grocery as well as being a post-mistress with Canada Post for 23 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Larry (Judy) Morine; grandchildren, Stephany (Joe) MacDow and Anthony (Stacey) Morine; great-grandson, Ryker MacDow; brother, Paul Smith; companion, George Thompson and his children; special nephew, Dale Smith, who lived with Muriel for many years and continued to be a part of her life; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Muriel was predeceased by her husband, Ivan Frank Morine 1929-1998; her siblings, Marjorie, Bernice, Reginald, Maurice, Alvin, and Keith.
Special thanks to the home dialysis program at QEII, the VON, staff on Medical ‘B’ in the Valley Regional Hospital and to Dr. Colin Burgoyne.
Cremation has taken place and by family request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to the VON, Victoria Order of Nurses . Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
