Obituary
Muriel Eileen Ferch (nee Greig) ~ December 13, 1950 (Revelstoke)-October 10, 2021 (West Kelowna)
It is with mixed feelings that we announce Muriel’s passing. She succumbed peacefully to Colon Cancer with grace and courage while in hospice at Brookhaven Care Center. We mourn the loss of her life on earth, but celebrate our many fond memories of her. Of course we also celebrate her promotion from this world, to be with her Creator. “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord” ~2 Corinthians 5:8
Survived by her devoted Husband of 52 years Dave; Son Bob (Shannon) Ferch and their 3 children and 1 Grandchild: Jody (Mark & son Eli), Corrie, and Levi; Daughter Sheri (Craig) Johnson, and their 8 children: Ellis (Chrissy), Elliot, Landell, Lochlan, Burklan, Shelise, Brylan, and Veleah. Muriel had the joy of attending her 2 eldest Grandchildren’s weddings, in 2020. She was also able to meet her newborn Great Grandson, in September 2021. Also survived by her Mother Eileen Greig, older sister Val (Bruce) Aitken, and 3 younger siblings: Bob (Laurie) Greig, Dianne (Rob) Bosch, Lynne (Steve) Scofield. Predeceased by her Grandfather Sam Hunter (1973), Father Angus Greig (2012), and Grandaughter Velissa Johnson (2016).
When Muriel was 6 months old the Greig family moved from Revelstoke to live with Grandpa Hunter (Sam) in his home on Rutland Rd. Once their new much larger family home down the block was completed in 1963, dear Grandpa Hunter moved in with them. Their home away from home was the cottage at Wilson’s Landing where they enjoyed almost 58 years of recreation, until the property was sold in 2015. Muriel was a graduate of Kelowna High School (1968). After some babysitting jobs, she had her first and only employment experience at Simpson Sears catalogue order department on Bernard Ave in Kelowna and also in Prince George.
Muriel married David Ferch on March 1, 1969. Dave had a long career with BC Hydro, which took them to Prince George, Bridge River, Burnaby (1971), Revelstoke (1977), and lastly Westbank in 1985. Muriel was never idle at home with cooking, cleaning, Bible studies, and raising their 2 children. After church on Sundays she would serve a full course meal to her family & guests. Dave & Muriel travelled extensively by land, with their car and tent. A highlight was the family road trip to Disneyland (as far south as Tijuana Mexico) in 1983. Family History was very important to Muriel, which stimulated a few trips to Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and NDakota. One of those occasions was with their daughter and Muriel’s parents, in 1987. They have since been to Yukon Territory, and every Canadian Province and US State. Most of which they explored by car with Muriel’s parents in 1992. Dave & Muriel also had a tour of: London, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Israel, and Greece in 1977. Muriel invested her life in serving people. She was a very practical “behind the scenes” woman. She loved to walk along the roadsides in her neighborhood to pick up litter (several times/week) for her exercise. She also was the longtime primary caregiver for her Mother Inlaw (Elaine Ferch) until she passed. Muriel then provided full-time care to her failing Mother in her home, until her own health prevented her from doing so. Muriel disliked wasting any resources, especially money. A thrill for her was to acquire an unexpected treasure at a Thrift Store. Muriel loved to study her Bible. She was never afraid to say or do anything that might be deemed unpopular. She feared The LORD more than what people might think or say; always giving praise, honor, glory to God for even the simplest of things…celebrating many small miracles! A lyric from her favorite hymn was: “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” She loved playing card & board games, assembling jigsaw puzzles, riding bicycles, trail walking, and hiking on Mt Boucherie with her Grandchildren.
Muriel will be sorely missed, until we meet again. Rest in Peace, until the final trumpet sounds. “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord” ~1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
