White, Mildred
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mildred on December 19, 2021 at the age of 85, in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family. Cherished wife of Carl for 63 wonderful years. Beloved mother of Karen Carey (Drew) and Jo-Anne MacKenzie (Doug). Proud granny of Amanda (Jeffery), Alex (Trish), Wesley (Jennifer), Adam (Chelsea), Megan (Austin) and Carly (Justin), adoring great-grandmother to; Charlie, Nathan, Ridley, Evie and Emily. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Mildred was born in Nova Scotia to a large Acadian family. The family relocated to Shediac New Brunswick when she was a young girl. From Shediac she followed many of her siblings to St Catherine’s ON at a young age and found work on an assembly line at General Motors. Her employment was short lived due to her chronic lung condition. With many friends and family in the area her soon to be husband’s cousin (Weldon White) and his wife Elsie (Mildred’s sister) arranged for Carl and Mildred to meet. After dating a short time they married and had a wee reception at her sister Dolore’s (Todd) home. Carl and Mildred enjoyed 63 years together and had two daughters Karen and Jo-Anne. Mildred had a strong Catholic faith and continued her commitment to the Catholic Church her entire life. She participated in many church groups and was a Eucharistic Minister, including at her eldest granddaughters wedding. Mildred made many sacrifices in her early married years so that she and Carl could build a good life for their family. Mildred told her daughters that her most rewarding career was raising her girls. The family travelled every summer to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, to their childhood homes, to be with their families and friends. They enjoyed clam digging, lobster rolls, Parlee beach, and Uncle Darrel and Uncle Ralph’s camps on the Bay of Fundy. The family also had many wonderful memories of trips south with the girls and later with their grandchildren. Mildred loved occasions, she made Christmas, Easter and Birthdays the most amazing memorable events for her girls. A tradition they and their children continue today. When Mildred and Carl downsized to Vineland from Burlington they enjoyed many outings to the casino and Mildred claims to have made more money than she lost. Mildred made many friends in Markham, Burlington and Vineland and enjoyed having tea on her front porch. Mildred persevered health hardships her entire life but told us she was blessed with a wonderful family and life. Mildred’s deep faith saw her thru her last trying days. She will be dearly missed.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Alexandria on Wednesday, December 22nd, 2021 at 10 AM. For those wishing to pay their last respects to Mildred she will be resting at the church from 9-10. A formal mass will begin promptly at 10am. Rite of committal will follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to either The Good Shepherd or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Mildred
