Mike’s Obituary
Mike Waselyshen, beloved husband of Marie Waselyshen, passed away at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, Saskatoon, SK, on July 30, 2021, at the age of 93 years.
Mike Waselyshen was born in Canora, SK, on March 28, 1928, to Wasyl and Mary (nee Soltys) Wasylyshyn.
His first job was in Regina, working on the railroad tracks. At age fifteen, he worked in a nickel mine in Sudbury. When he was eighteen years old, he drove semi between Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, carrying oil rig equipment. Mike also had odd jobs including blacksmithing, arc welding, as well as working on the pipeline. At age thirty, he worked in Elrose at a restaurant/gas station. He then became a journeyman mechanic at age forty. Throughout his lifetime, he also helped his father farm in Canora.
Mike enjoyed fishing and boating in La Ronge and B.C. He also liked to curl, play cards, play softball, and go square dancing.
The highlight of his life was getting married (60 years of marriage) and having his kids. Although he wanted enough kids for a baseball team, his wife, Marie, stopped him at three!
His only son, David, is the oldest of three. He lives in Saskatoon, SK, and is married with two kids. He operates a trucking business.
His oldest daughter, Donna, is a Registered Nurse and a Registered Massage Therapist in Saskatoon, SK.
His youngest daughter, Debra, is a kindergarten teacher in La Ronge, SK.
Mike was always a hard worker and had to keep busy. He loved to work and there seemed to be a never-ending supply of work to be done.
He was proud and happy to be 93 years old!
Mike is predeceased by his parents, Wasyl and Mary (nee Soltys) Waselyshen and his three sisters, Ann Iluk, Victoria Wiwchar, and Nora Lukey.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; son, David (Trudy) and their children, Justin and Sarah Waselyshen; daughters, Donna (Marcus) Koeberlin and Debra Waselyshen and her dog, Sparky; as well as extended family and friends.
