Michael Scott was born January 24, 1975 in Steinbach, MB to Jerry and Lenora Penner. He passed away on May 24, 2021 in a tragic truck accident.
Mike was a vibrant, energetic person who loved people. His main focus was his children, that they would be happy, secure and make good choices. Lately, when stressful times came he would always say that we needed to stop and pray. Often included in his sermons was the importance of guiding our families in the right direction. Visiting with his neighbors and friends was very important to him and especially of late he had connected with old friends. Trucks were always a big part of his life and he was a farmer at heart. He loved checking his crops and taking care of the cattle with his family.
In his early teens he gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite. He married me, Jeannine Friesen, on August 11, 1996. We shared almost 25 years together. We were blessed with 2 sons and a daughter. He was ordained to the deaconry July 17, 2006 and faithfully served God and his people until the end. The day he left us he found many reasons to stop by the house to sit on the deck and talk. He died doing what he loved, spending time with Jimmy, teaching him to drive the truck. Just before leaving on the short drive that afternoon he told Alisher to wait to do chores till he got home so they could do it together. That same morning, he had told Jasmine “I have a question for you”, then they got interrupted. Jasmine knew that they would talk about it later, but later never came. Family devotions were very important to him and the night before he died he gathered us all together for a special prayer.
Those left to cherish fond memories are his wife Jeannine, 3 children, Alisher 18, Jimmy and Jasmine 16, His family; Parents, Jerry and Lenora Penner, 3 brothers, Kris and Randee, Kevin and Laura, Ryan and Marla, 2 sisters, Sherrilee and Benny, Angela and Waylan, Mary and Donavon. Jeannine’s Family; Parents, Ed and Rowena Friesen, 2 brothers; Rowan and Heather, Cliff and Shirley, 2 sisters; Lizanne and Joe, Kendra and Elden, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
