Obituary of Merle Jay Carpenter
Merle Jay Carpenter age 71 of Elmira, NY passed away on Saturday May 15, 2021. Merle was born October 2, 1948 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Clifford George Carpenter and Eva Lorraine Harvey Carpenter. He is survived by his wife Gayle R. Hurd Carpenter; children: Anita Lamb , Robert (Marjorie) Carpenter , Susan (John) Coley, and Cathie (Jim) Hand; brother and sisters : Bill (Vivian) Carpenter , Sookey Kliner , Lillian (Allen) Comfort, and Erma Corey; grandchildren: Allijain Lamb, Alonzo Powell Jr., Mathew Coley, Jaimie Hand, Thomas Hand, Nicole Carpenter, Taylor Carpenter; great grandchildren: Jay’Ell Jones, Jade Coley, and Lukas Carpenter ; nieces and nephews: Cindy Sommers, Arlene Graham, Jessica Balmer, Jenna Balmer, Eddy Howard jr. , Trina Howard, Bonnie Sue (Nancy) Hunt, Daniel Harvey, Lynn Marie Harvey, Tanya Temple,and James Mason; several friends including his best friend Phil Grasson. Merle loved bowling, racing , and spending time talking with friends and family. He loved his time with his great granddaughter, Jay’Ell. They picked on each other constantly and she kept him on his toes. He will be truly missed . It was Merle’s wishes that there be no services at this time. A Celebration of Merle’s Life will held at a time to be announced. Arrangements are entrusted to the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY.
