Melbourne Harris McKay 2021

A dear and most loved husband, father, brother and uncle passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born May 11, 1939, in Sydney, he was the son of the late Melbourne Harris and the late Frances (MacSween) McKay of Alexandra Street, Sydney.
Melbourne began his working career at Eastern Light and Power (now Nova Scotia Power), retiring in 1993 after 36 years of service.
It was at Eastern Light and Power that Melbourne met his future wife, Frania Ryba. They were blessed with over 55 years of married life and two wonderful daughters, Shauna and Shari.
Melbourne was known for his quiet demeanor, infectious smile and hearty laugh. He was always fair and willing to help in any situation. In recognition of his many years of dedication and service to St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society, Melbourne was recently honoured as a life member. He was an avid reader, wine maker and traveler, travelling extensively in Canada, the United States and Europe with his family.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his youngest sister, Ann Bernice “Decie” (Danny) LeBlanc.
Melbourne is survived by his sisters, Sandi (Victor) Ravanello and Sharon McKay; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, February 19 from 6-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, February 20 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Lydia MacKinnon officiating. Covid restrictions and masks will be mandatory.
Memorials in memory of Melbourne may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
