Obituary of Melba Marr (nee Morrow)
MARR, Melba (née Morrow) – Of RR3, Shedden (Frome), passed away at LHSC, University Hospital on Friday, August 6, 2021, in her 86th year. Beloved wife for 64 years to Ernest H. “Bud” Marr. Dearly loved mother of Dr. Julie Marr of Stoney Creek, Scott Marr (Yvette) of Frome, and Jamie Marr (Vera) of St. Thomas. Cherished grandmother of Brandon, Tyler, Lindsey (Jeff), Jaime, Dr. Danielle, Kelly, Grayson (Vanessa), Ashton (Matt), and Katie (Brayden). Also survived by several great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Marilyn Brown (late Roy), several nieces, nephews and their families, and cousins. Melba was predeceased by an infant granddaughter, Carly. Born in St. Thomas, ON, May 28, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Ada (née Brown) Morrow. Melba was a retired teacher, having taught at Fingal, Westminster Central and Southwold public schools. She was a member of Frome United Church, where she was an assistant organist and a U.C.W. member. Melba was instrumental in the establishment of the Southwold Township Library, Shedden, and formerly served on the Fingal Public School Reunion Committee, the Veterans Memorial at Southwold Keystone Complex Committee, and many others. She volunteered at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital for over 25 years.
A private family service to celebrate Melba’s life will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160). As per the directive of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO), attendance numbers will be restricted and a properly worn mask or face covering is required. In keeping with Melba’s wishes, cremation has taken place and interment will be made privately in Frome Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a drive-by visitation on Sunday, August 15th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Southwold Keystone Complex, 35921 Talbot Line, Shedden. Guests are asked to please remain in their vehicles as they pay their respects. Flowers respectfully declined. Memorial donations to the Fingal Heritage Park Fund or the charity of one’s choice will be gratefully acknowledged.
