Chan, Mavis:
It is with heavy hearts and never ending love that the family Mavis Chan (Das) went home to Heaven to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus on Friday, August 27, 2021.
She was born on November 17, 1925 in Berbice, New Amsterdam, Guyana, South America.
Beloved wife of the late Rev. Andrew Wolfgang Chan (October 27, 1998) for 52 years. The family moved to Canada from Guyana, South America in 1967 and 1968.
Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will miss her very much and all of the things she did for us.
Denis and his wife Donna, their children Bradley and his wife Jules – their daughters, Elizabeth and Julianna, Marcia and her husband Tim – their children Abbey and Dezmond; Richard and his wife Sharon, theirs sons Richard Jr. and his wife Heidi, and Robert and his predeceased son Grayson as birth; Charles; Compton and his wife Jackie, their daughters Carrie and her husband Dino – their children Maddie (Derek), Andrew (Carol) and Alexander, Sara and her husband Gary – their daughters Olivia and Emma; Claude and his wife Shanty, their sons Justin and his wife Thuy – their children Lucas and Lena, Jason and his wife Lara – their son Harrison, Jordan and his wife Ashley; Pat and her husband Dave Herzog, their daughters Tanya and her husband Rocky – Rocky’s children Mariann and Rocky Jr.; Tiffany and her daughter Tianna; Rachel and her husband Ryan and their son Dominique.
She will be remembered by her sisters-in-law, Monica and Esther Chan and Rena Samaroo, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours in Canada, USA, Guyana, South America and other places, for all that she did to make them feel special, loved and blessed whenever they were together. She was a very special woman.
Predeceased by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Agnes (Gobin) Das, brother Henry Das, sisters Lucille, Lykan, Rosie and Olive (Arnold Ford), Basil Budhu, in-laws Henry Chan, Phillip and Audrey Chan, Jane and Theodore Chua Kong, Agnes and Rupert Fung Fook, Bernice and Sonny Suknaan, Albert Samaroo, Puerto and Iris Samaroo.
Mavis worked at St. Mary’s Hospital from 1968 to 1990. She attended the International Gospel Centre that was started up through the guidance of the Lord to Rev. D. J. Emmerson, who passed away and it’s continuing on through Rev. Mark Emmerson.
Mavis’ family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener. A private service will be held in the chapel at 1 p.m. Mavis’ service may be viewed via livestream at www.henrywalser.com/live-streaming
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation or Grand River Hospital Foundation – Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
