Obituary
Marlene passed away peacefully at her home surrounded lovingly by her family, Thursday August 26th, 2021, at the age of 79.
Marlene will be dearly missed and was survived by her children: Brigitte (David) Goar of Kincardine, Ontario, Marlene (Steve) Fontaine of Calgary, Alberta, Wanda (Dave) Miller of Spruce Grove, Alberta and Allan Miller of Edson, Alberta.
Also survived by her 7 grandchildren: Melissa (Mark) Capone, Dylan Goar, Ryley (Natasha) Miller, James Miller, Shaneen (Nick) Miller, Justin Liscomb, Niki (Jason) Miller and 2 great granddaughters, Mya and Ava Miller, siblings: Charlotte Shellingberg, Alice (Richard) Chaban, Margaret (Jim) Cedarstrom, Helen (George) Peters, Ann (Bob) Armstrong, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends that Marlene made over the 43 years that she lived in Edson.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Al Miller, parents Gaberial and Emily Fontaine, brothers Kenny Fontaine, Art Fontaine, Joe Fontaine, Dennis Fontaine and sister Terry Ledin.
Marlene was born and raised in Pine Falls, Manitoba where she was one of 11 children. She moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba and that is where she met and married Al Miller. Over the years they resided in Thunderbay, Ontario, Calgary, Alberta and then eventually Edson, Alberta.
Marlene had several career choices throughout her life ranging from a factory worker at Paulin Chambers, Ambulance Services in Edson as a driver, worked at Luscar Sterco Ltd, (Coal Valley), and retired as a school bus driver for Grand Yellowhead Public School Division in Edson.
Marlene had a love for the Special Olympics where she coached and travelled many places with her son Allan and the team for 38 years. Marlene was awarded in 1999 Female Coach of the Year for the Alberta Special Olympics.
Her love of horses started when she moved to Edson with her family, where they became involved with the Edson Gymkana Club and Wildwood Club. She had many mountain trips with her friends that brought so much joy to her life.
Marlene touched the hearts and souls of many people in her life’s journey, all of our lives are better and richer for having been blessed to have her. Marlene cherished her family and friends and enjoyed nothing more than being with them.
A Celebration of Marlene’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Edson, on September 5th, 2021, at 2 pm.
