SKREPNECHUK, Yvonne
Our beloved, Mary “Yvonne” Skrepnechuk (nee Brake), born February 26, 1937, aged 84, passed on to the care of our Lord on Friday, December 17th, 2021. She is the seventh of fourteen children born to Mary and Hector Brake in Meadows Newfoundland. Yvonne had an unbreakable spirit and was no stranger to overcoming the odds. Diagnosed with M.S at the age of 23 doctors thought she was not long for our world. However, Yvonne’s unwavering faith and persevering joy in the Lord kept her going and inspired all who were blessed with her company. Diminutive in stature yet immense in personality, love, energy, and drive; Yvonne “lived large.” She became a teacher in 1954, specializing in working with special needs children while actively involved in her work and community over the years. She was named Citizen of the Year 1980 in Cranbrook, B.C. and awarded the Canada 150 Medal in 2017. To Yvonne, these accomplishments paled in comparison against her commitment to her church and to her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Her faithfulness was recognized when she was awarded the Order of Niagara in 2006. She was welcoming to all she met and remains a role model for those who knew her. Yvonne is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Peter, her children Nyle (Peter) and P.J, and her grandchildren Mac, Maggie (Darren), and McCallum and Maddy, and great-grandchild Jubilee. A small memorial service is to be held in the new year. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Yvonne’s memory be made to St. John the Divine Anglican Church, 39 Ottawa Street N., Cayuga, ON N0A 1E0
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Mary Yvonne Skrepnechuk Brake Friday December 17th 2021..
