Mary Winnifred Graham MacDonald 19302021

Mary Winnifred (Graham) MacDonald
1930-2021
Mary Winnifred (Graham) MacDonald – 90, of
Wolfville, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at The Windsor Elms
Village, Falmouth. Born December 11, 1930, in Florence, Cape Breton,
Winnie was a daughter of Francis Graham and Elizabeth Halliday
(MacFarlane) Graham. Winnie is survived by her sister, Effie Brown
(Donald), Sydney Mines; her daughter Sarah Tessier (Andre), Lake
George; Ron (Dena), Lumsden Dam; W. Graham (Tina Dale), Wolfville;
grandchildren, Christine (Adam Gulliver), Elise (Stu Woo), Matthew,
Ben, Sam, Alexandra, Anna, Rachel; great-grandchildren, Isaac and
Alexei and several nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Mount
Allison University. Winnie was predeceased by her husband of 42 years,
W. Ronald Mac Donald, who passed away in 2001 in San Carlos, Mexico.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Grace Fortugno
(Nat), Montreal; Isabell Andrews (William), Sydney Mines; Irene
Boutlier (Lorne), Florence; and Frances Bardswich (John), Sydney
Mines. Ever the adventurer, Ron ensured that Winnie enjoyed seeing the
world. Sometimes she helped with the planning, but a few trips were
planned without her knowledge because he knew he was pushing his luck!
Winnie taught school in Halifax, Musquodoboit Harbour, Ithaca, NY, and
in Kings County. She owned a business in Wolfville for several years.
Winnie had a strong sense of community and was an active member of the
United Church. She was involved in many charities, including
Inter-Church Housing “little home project”, Meals on
Wheels and The Flower Cart. She was a devoted wife, mother,
grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved the beach, swimming,
reading, walking, and golf but was happiest surrounded by her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Following Ron’s
death, Winnie found the perfect companion, Don MacLeod. Winnie and Don
lived life to the fullest, spending time with their families and
grandchildren, traveling, and enjoying community events and
activities. Winnie was proud of Don’s role in the design and
building of the Windsor Elms Village, where Winnie spent the last
years of her life. Don passed away in 2015 and is survived by his
daughter, Margaret (Barry Acton), and son, Andrew. Cremation has taken
place. There will be no visitation by request. A private celebration
of life shall take place. The family wishes to thank the outstanding
staff of the Windsor Elms Village for their tremendous care and
kindness. Donations in Winnie’s memory may be made to the
Valley Regional Hospital Foundation of Kentville, Wolfville
L’arche Homefires Society, Orchard Valley United Church, New
Minas or a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been
entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
