Mary Prisciak was born March 27, 1932 on the family farm in the Springburn School area just northeast of Wynyard.
She lived most of her life in the RMs of Elfros and Emerald. She was the eldest girl of ten children. Mary passed away peacefully at Golden Acres on November 13, 2021.
Mary was a women ahead of her time. From a very young age she took on family responsibilities caring for her younger siblings. At the age of 16, she married Joseph Prisciak and together they farmed and raised four children. In addition to her household duties, Mary simultaneously managed a professional career and farm partnership, achieving her “Masters in Farm Equipment Operation”. In the 1960’s, she started her “off farm” career initially with Census Canada and later working for Statistics Canada. She travelled the province extensively through this work and eventually became a Statistics Canada Supervisor and teacher for Western Canada.
Mary was very active in the church and community. For many years she volunteered her time supporting community initiatives and events. She wasinstrumental in fundraising for the Hilltop and Town Hall. She was well known for her green thumb, love of flowers, hosting family events and spending quality time with her grandchildren.
Mary was predeceased by her parents John and Annie Hayko; her husband Joseph; her brothers Merv, Ray and Steve; her sister Carol; brothers in law Barry McKinnon, Matthew Popadynetz, Franklin Chasky and Alfred Field as well as her niece Peggy Roettger.
She is survived by her children Frank and Denise, Greg and Gale, Barb and Ken, Danny and Colleen as well as grandchildren Kyrie, Nicole, Jared, Erin, Andrew and their families; Tarra and her family; Payden, Bailey, Kelly and their families; Jamie and David. She is also survived by her sisters Rosemarie, Hope, Vicky, Jean and Joni; her sisters in law Doreen Hayko and Carol Hayko and their families.
