In the early hours of March 12, Jesus whispered softly in Mom’s ear as she rested peacefully in her bed at Richmond Villa, St. Peter’s. “Delia-it is time good and faithful servant-come with Me-you have lived a long Christian life for 100 years since your birth in Sampsonville, Richmond Co. I recall your many years in Sydney River and your contributions as a founding member of Our Lady of Fatima C.W.L. Now it is time to join your beloved husband Albert and Sharon’s husband, your son, Arnold, in heaven. You can leave your cherished Ste. Anne de Beaupre prayerbook behind for others to read and enjoy. Your parents Simon (Landry), from whom you inherited your sense of humor and Angeline (nee Briand), whose kind heart was reflected in you, are waiting along with your siblings Sylvester, Elias, Joseph, Charles, Vincent and Lillian. Your children Joan (Dave) Folker, Sandra (Mike) DeVarennes, Reg (Shirley), Len (Celia), Greg (Michele), Rick (Chris) and Brent (Charlene), your sister Jean and special nieces Bernice and Shirley will miss your sharp Acadian wit but will cherish your memories, knitting treasures, meat pies, fish cakes and other tasty meals prepared with love and kindness. You are sure to find a 45’s card game to play and yes Delia-you can even sweep and dust in heaven if you think it needs it. You will be missed by your 23 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. Your many nieces and nephews will be sad to see you leave but they realize that all things must come to pass. You can continue to pray in heaven for those you have left behind, and your St. John the Baptist CWL members in River Bourgeois will surely be following your prayerful example. Who knows, there may even be a square set every now and then to remind you of youthful pastimes.” Delia and her family much appreciated the kindness and professional care she received while at the Villa. Her wishes were to be cremated and buried beside her husband in River Bourgeois at a later date. Donations can be made in her memory to either the Recreation Department, Richmond Villa or perpetual care for St. John the Baptist Church or St. Peter’s Church. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury.
