Martha Belle Nelson 19212021

Martha Belle Nelson
1921-2021
Martha Belle Nelson of Lower Cape passed away peacefully on
January 16, 2021, just 13 days after her 100th
birthday. She passed away at home, with her family by her
side.
Martha was born in Lower Cape, Albert County, NB, in
January 3,1921, the daughter of the late Henry and Frances
“Fanny” (Tingley) Nelson.
She started work at the County Tax Office in Hopewell Cape
and ended her career with Town Planning for the province of
NB out of the Moncton Office until her retirement.
Martha has lived her whole life in Lower Cape and loved her
home. She was known in the community as a lady who would do
anything to lend a hand. She and her sister Marie had a very
special bond and have lived together in the old homestead all their
lives, often you could not say Martha without saying Martha and
Marie. They had a love of knitting, quilting
and spent many hours doing just that. They made
hundreds of handmade quilts and made many mittens, argyle socks,
scarfs, hats and crochets many dollies over the
years. Everything they made was made with love and the time
they spent on every stitch was worth it for them. She also had a love
of animals, especially her cats. Martha always said she
wanted to live to be 100 and she reached her goal. She was a
very determined lady and usually when she set her mind to
something she got it done. She never had any children of her
own but was very lucky to have several nieces and nephews who she
cared for dearly. She knew what they were all up to and made
weekly if not daily calls to some to see what was happening in their
lives. She loved travelling and never turned down
a chance to go on a road trip. Martha herself said she had a
great life as she enjoyed the simple things. She also
enjoyed company and could talk for hours. Think of
all the changes she has seen over her 100 years, but one thing never
changed and that was her love of Albert County and her home.
She recently celebrated her 100th birthday, which she so much
enjoyed and appreciated. Her family would like to
thank everyone for their visits, cards, flowers,
gifts and phone calls on her special day. She was so happy
to hear from you all! In her own words, “It was a Great
day.” May she rest in peace and find
happiness in her eternal home.
She will be missed by her sisters, Marie Nelson of Lower
Cape, Ruth O’Blenis (George) of Boundary Creek and Frances
Douthwright of Riverview; nephew, Edward Douthwright and his wife
Darlene of Lower Cape, where she resided at the end of her
journey. She will also be sadly missed by her many nieces,
nephews, neighbors and friends.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by sister, Lucinda
Mills (Robert); brothers, Roy (Pearl), Jack (Geraldine), Clark
(Marion).
Honoring Martha’s own wishes there will be no visitation or
funeral service. A graveside service will take place at the
Mountain View Cemetery, Lower Cape, NB at a later
date.
Donations to the Mountain View Cemetery or to the charity
of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
Arrangements are in the care of Albert County Funeral Home,
