MARK ALEXANDER MacCONNELL, P.Eng.
Mark passed away on May 24, 2021, at home in Burnaby, BC.
Mark was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia to Bill MacConnell and Florence (Harris) MacConnell. He was predeceased by his brother Alan, his maternal grandparents, Donald and Violet Harris, his paternal grandparents Harold W. MacConnell and Florence Littlefield.
Mark was a graduate of Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School and went on to study at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Due to a lack of opportunities for summer employment at that time he moved to Trail, British Columbia for work. He attended Selkirk College and went on to study at Okanagan University College in Kelowna, obtaining a diploma in Engineering Technology. He then worked in Seattle for ten months and decided to obtain a degree in Civil Engineering and moved back to British Columbia and obtained his civil engineering degree from UBC. For the past 16 years he has been employed by Metro Vancouver where he became a specialist in water resources and design of water systems. Mark was also Chairperson of the American Waterworks Association Standards Committee on Butterfly Valves.
He had a genuine fondness for children and related to them like the individuals he perceived them to be.
Mark was a huge sports participant in hockey, soccer, basketball and bike riding in both mountain and road venues. As a teenager he played baseball. Golf was a challenge and interest in more recent years and once he achieved the level of his best ability, he moved on to another sports challenge. He was an absolute movie buff and could relate many episodes from a huge number of movies and had an incredible collection of numerous works.
He has left to mourn his mom, Flo Woodhouse, and her partner, Dieter Bogs of Trail, BC, his father Bill MacConnell in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins as well as many friends and colleagues across Canada. Mark will be remembered as a kind and considerate person and will be missed by everyone who knew him. We know he will be welcomed in the afterlife by family who knew him so well.
A memorial for Mark will be held at some future date in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia with interment at the Darling Lake Cemetery.
