Obituary of Marjorie June Young
Passed away at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor on September 27, 2021 after a brief illness, Marjorie J. Young of Gander. She was 91 years of age and predeceased by her parents Fredrick and Lillian (Lush) Young and her brother Scott Young of Botwood.
Marjorie was born in Burlington, NL in 1930 and moved to Botwood with her family in 1942 at the age of 12. After finishing High School, she worked at Antle’s store in Botwood for a short time before gaining employment with the Federal Government in 1954, where she worked for 37 years with the Employment Insurance office, until her retirement in 1991. Her career with the Federal Public Service saw Marjorie move around the province a fair bit, especially early on in her career, having lived and worked for various periods of time in Grand Falls, St. John’s, Corner Brook and finally Gander.
Marjorie was a very kind, caring and benevolent person with a strong conviction in her faith. She donated regularly to churches of various denominations and to numerous charitable organizations. One of her very favourite things to do when she was still able was to shop at the Co-op supermarket on Mondays so that she could get various meat and poultry items on sale from the weekend, fill up her huge deepfreeze, and then proceed to give it all away to whomever she thought could use it. That’s the kind of person she was, always looking to put others before herself. She will be missed dearly.
Marjorie leaves to mourn her sister-in-law Gloria Young; nephew Paul Young and wife Billi; niece Rhonda (Young) Mills and husband Craig; great nieces Dawn Mills and Zenia Young and numerous other relatives and friends.
Many thanks to the staffs at both Lane’s Retirement Living (Killick) in Botwood and Kingsway Living in Grand Falls-Windsor for all their support during her time spent living there these last few years, as well as to the dedicated medical staff at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre for their care and compassion during her recent illness.
Also, special thanks to Mr. Gorden Chaulk of Gander, who for many years prior to Marjorie moving into the retirement home, often assisted her with the many of the day-to-day needs she had, whether it was providing a ride to the bank or helping pick up groceries. Your generosity was, and is, greatly appreciated.
Following COVID 19 restrictions there will be a public visitation from 7-9 pm on Thursday, September 30th, at Hoskins Funeral Home in Botwood. The funeral service will take place at the Trinity United Church in Botwood starting at 2 pm on Friday, October 1st, with interment to follow thereafter at the United Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marjorie’s memory can be made to the Trinity United Church, Botwood.
