Marjorie’s Obituary
MOTT (Johnstone), Marjorie Leota ~ Age 91. It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Marjorie on September 30th, 2021, in Arborstone Enhanced Care, Halifax, N.S. Born February 16, 1930, in Waterville, Kings County, N.S., Marjorie was the only daughter of the late Ralph and Minnie (Wentzell) Johnstone. She graduated from Kings County Academy, and later attended the Success Business School in Truro, where she trained as a secretary. Marjorie lived her life primarily in the beautiful Annapolis Valley region of Nova Scotia, where she raised her children and put down roots. She was employed for many years with the Dominion Atlantic Railway. It was there she met the love of her life George, with whom she spent a joyful 34 years. Marjorie and George were avid travelers, visiting destinations near and far in North America by rail and in their trusty RV, where they often brought their grandchildren along for outdoor adventures. In her golden years, Marjorie kept busy as a longtime member of the Kentville Hobby Crafters and as an amateur genealogist. A devoted member of the Kentville United Baptist Church, Marjorie dedicated her time and talents to the Ethel Fenerty Women’s Missionary Society, Ladies Auxiliary, Adult Bible Class, and Fellowship Group. Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Carol (McLaughlin) Weir (Lowell), of Bedford, N.S.; her son, David (Mary Jo) MacLaughlin, of Estero, Florida; and, her step-son, George (Eva) Mott, of Canterbury, N.B. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Lauren (Joey) Maddalena, of Bedford, N.S.; Kyle Weir (Rachel West), of Toronto, ON; Sam (Lauren) Weir, of Bedford, N.S.; Mark (Tracie) MacLaughlin, of Estero, Florida; Pauline Mott, of Belo Horizonte, Brazil; and Madeline (Mark) McMillan, of Fredericton, N.B.; by great-grandchildren, Jessie, Ruby, Thea, Austin, Olive, Elsie, Justin, and Zoey; by her sister-in-law, Muriel Johnstone, of Waterville, Kings County, N.S.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George Edward Mott in 2006; and her brothers, Stuart and William Johnstone. Interment will take place in Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. A celebration of Marjorie’s life will be held in the summer of 2022. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kentville United Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
