Marion’s Obituary
The family of the late Marion Naduriak announce her peaceful passing at the Canora Gateway Lodge on August 27, 2021, at the age of 93 years.
Olga Mary (Marion) Naduriak (nee Pura) was born January 10, 1928, in Tiny, SK, to Mary Anne Pura. Her father was unknown.
She attended school near Tiny, SK, until grade 10, then, seeking employment, made her way to Toronto, ON, in 1944. While working at a bank, Marion was called a “bohunk” by her supervisor. She spoke up, challenged management, and then walked out. Marion then went across the street to Parrish & Heimbecker and was hired on the spot. She also worked in a Muntions factory, packing parachutes. Marion was a member of the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade in 1947.
In 1946, Marion met Bill Naduriak in Toronto, ON. They were married August 16, 1947, in Toronto, then returned to SK.
Together, Marion and Bill farmed near Canora, SK, and were blessed with three children – Marilyn, Bob, and Greg.
Marion worked for the Canora School District and for SK Crop Insurance. She chaired the local branch of the SK Farmer’s Union, was a member of the Co-op Women’s Guild, and served with Parkland Community College’s program committee. She sat on the board of the SK Centre of the Arts. Marion was a recipient of a Canada 125 medal in 1993.
For over 50 years, Marion was devoted to St. Andrew’s United Church. She was an Intern Supervisor and Lay Minister and attended and led many services and funerals until her health deteriorated. In 2018, Marion became a resident of the Canora Gateway Lodge, where she continued to reside until her passing on Friday, August 27, 2021.
Marion was intelligent, self-educated, and extremely well-read. She had an avid interest in current events, politics, and natural health. Marion was able to speak, read, and write Ukrainian which endeared her to many. Marion was a wonderful listener, often over a cup of coffee with friends. She loved to spend time in her garden and befriended many stray farm cats. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marion is survived by her loving family and numerous friends.
A Public Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 31, 2021.
