Marion Lucy Hamilton November 13th 1922 October 30th 2021

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts, the family of Marion Lucy Hamilton (Lumby) announces her sudden, but peaceful passing at Bluewater Health- Palliative Care, after a brief illness, on Saturday, October 30, 2021 with her loving children by her side, two weeks shy of her 99th birthday. Mom was born on November 13th, 1922 to Marvin and Annie Lumby in Sarnia, ON. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald Vernon Hamilton on August 5th 1944. Over the years, Mom loved golfing and curling at the SGCC; travelling with Dad; and playing bridge with “her bridge girls” and with Dad, Roy and Gene by their Errol Road pool. Roy and his family were a great support to Mom after Dad’s sudden passing in 2001. Mom loved her nearly forty years working at Taylor’s Furniture Store starting as a young girl in the office until her children came along; and eventually going back to work in 1975 and selling fine quality furniture until she retired at age 72! Being born and raised in her beloved Sarnia, Mom lived most of her life in the family home until they built on Lakeshore Road; in her later years at Rosewood Manor; and the past seven years at Afton Park Place where she brought smiles and laughter to many faces. She always had a little ditty to sing or recite to her kind, loving caregivers. We’re sure they will always think of her and the “Sergeant Major” when they hear the words, “around the corner”. She enjoyed taking part in the many activities offered by the Life Enrichment Gang: manicures, exercise classes, card games, playing and winning Bingo games, crafting, attending Friday concerts and she particularly loved singing her heart out on Thursday afternoon sing alongs with Laura. Sadly, Covid robbed the residents of their daily, group gatherings. Mom was always the life of any party or gathering and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching “anything that moved” on TV and especially loved her Blue Jay ball games. Her TV was always tuned in to one of the sports channels. She was a lover of dogs her entire life. We’re so thankful for the visits she made to Fort Frances to spend time with her granddaughters over the years. We were fortunate enough that we were all together in Sarnia to celebrate Mom’s 95th birthday at Brian’s house. Left to cherish Mom’s memory is her devoted and loving son, Brian (Terri Kallies) of Sarnia, ON, who cared for her and visited faithfully; and her loving daughter, Marnie (John Dutton) of Fort Frances, ON who bridged the geographical distance between them with frequent visits to Sarnia and more recently, during Covid, with FaceTime visits. Mom was a much loved “Nana” to Ashleigh (Jim Armstrong) of Fort Frances, ON, Heather (Dwight Holmen) of Chestermere, AB, and Rachel (Marcus Dunphy) of Souris, PEI. She was “Great Nan” to Collins and Caylin Armstrong, Cooper and Avery Holmen, and Declan, Maverick and “Baby Dunphy” due in December. She was “Aunt Marion” to nieces and nephews in Sarnia (brett, Lisa), BC and Michigan. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Marvin and Annie Lumby, her much loved husband, Don (2001) of 57 years, and her two brothers, Bill (Kaye) of Abbotsford, BC and Roy (Gene) of Sarnia and sister-in-law Lois Kaufman of Romeo, MI. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks and deepest gratitude to; the kind and gentle nurses on Bluewater Health- Palliative Care for their care of Mom and us as we prepared for her journey; her loving Afton Park family of nurses and caregivers; to Dr. William O’Mahoney, whom she loved to flirt with and make blush; and to the Life Enrichment Program Gang at Afton for keeping Mom engaged, happy anf involved. Mom will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but we have so many happy memories, pictures and videos to share with tears and laughter. She’ll be remembered and cherished in all our hearts forever and always. We love you, Mom! At last, after 20 years, Mom is “Together Forever” with Dad.”Every fear will be undone, and death will be no more. As songs of the angels welcome you, before the face of God”. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Mom’s wonderful life will be planned for next summer when family and friends can gather together. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Life Enrichment Program at Afton Park Place, which helps enrich the lives of the residents, or to Bluewater Health- Palliative Care (cheques mailed to the funeral home or made online, please). Arrangements entrusted to SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
