Marion Buchan
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Marion Buchan (Kidd) Piercey, at the Health Sciences Centre on April 21, 2021, in her 98th year. Marion was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, January 22, 1924 to John Kidd and Violet (Scott) Kidd. She met her future husband Wallace Pierceyduring WW II while serving in the Scottish Timber Corps and he being a member of the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit. She sailed to Newfoundland in 1946 and was married at St. Luke’s Church, Winterton becoming one of many War Brides who came from overseas. Although a Newfoundlander and later a Canadian, she was always Scottish at heart, and a very proud Scot she was. Her heart soared at the sound of the bagpipes and her music collection contained all the Pipe music she could find. She looked forward to attending War Bride reunions and luncheons, meeting old friends and sharing stories of their adventures as young war brides.
Marion was very involved in her community of Winterton her entire life. She was a faithful member of the Anglican Church Women for over 70 years. She served as lay reader in the parish of Heart’s Content for 25 years and was still serving in that capacity into her 91st year. She was a woman of great faith and that faith sustained her throughout her life time.
She was a lifelong learner who mastered her computer skills in her 90’s. She loved keeping in touch by email and even had her own Facebook page. As an avid reader, she loved a good mystery or detective story. Her daily paper brought her great pleasure, not just for the news but the crossword puzzles, Jumble Puzzles and Find a Words that kept her busy every morning.
She reveled in a good game of cards and could rarely be beaten in a game of Scrabble. A woman of many talents, she gifted her children and grandchildren with her knitting and crochet handiwork.
A debt of gratitude goes to the staff of Karwood Retirement Retreat, which was her home for the pastfive years. She loved living at Karwood where she made many new friends and was cared for with compassion and kindness. The doctors and nurses of 4 North A at the Health Sciences Centre were angels who saw her through her last 3 weeks. We thank them for their care, compassion and kindness.
Mom leaves behind a wonderful legacy. She taught us all many life lessons that we carry with us. Left with great thankfulness for a life well lived and the gift of so many precious memories are her four children: Violet (Gordon) Parrott, Wallace (Jean) Piercey, John (Joyce) Piercey, Fiona (Herb) Legge.
Her eight grandchildren: Sarah (Victor), Jeffrey (Lori), Ronalee (Dave), Jason (Alanna), Katherine (Mike), Aaron (Allison), Elizabeth, Stephanie (Brandyn).
Her four great grandchildren: Brittany, Bianca, Luke and Callie.
Sister-in-law: Sheila Kidd (Yorkshire, England)
She is greatly missed by her good friend Josephine Woodfine, Karwood.
Also leaving many nieces and nephews in the Piercey, Pitcher and Downey families. As well as many friends and acquaintances in Winterton.
