Obituary
It is with heavy hearts the family of Marilyn (Hughes) Lawrence, loving and devoted wife to Willard Lawrence announces her peaceful passing which occurred on Tuesday, October 26th, 2021, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on October 19th, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Cyril and Marjorie Hughes.
Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She enjoyed the peace and calmness of her yard in Forest Hills where she took great pride in the gardening and landscaping. During her working years, Marilyn worked in sales for Tower Luggage and Crescent Jewellery. She enjoyed spending winters at their 2nd home in Bradenton, Florida where they took great joy in hosting their children and families. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana/Nan/Gigi. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her smile.
In addition to her husband of 62 years, Willard, she is survived by her sons Brian (Lori), John (Paula), and Kevin (Sharon); daughters Heather Mersereau (Wayne) and Nancy Davis (Kent); sisters Margo Moore and Helen Bérubé; brothers Peter and Burton Hughes, 10 grandchildren; Jennifer van den Heuvel (Jonathan), Laura Cosman (Malcolm), Stephen Mersereau (Britta), Jared Lawrence, Jonathan Lawrence, Kathryn Lawrence, Taylor Davis, Jessica Davis, Elizabeth Lawrence and Sydney Lawrence, as well as 10 beautiful great-grandchildren; Hailey, Emma, Zoe, Maddison, Oliver, Arthur, Josephine, Henry, Linden, and Lauren, along with several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Marilyn was pre-deceased by brothers Richard, Cyril, Brian, and David Hughes, as well as 2 sisters, Beverly Laubman and Janet Kerr.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitation being held on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The memorial service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, October 30th at 10:00am. A private family interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Due to COVID-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings, all those 12 and older attending visitation and service will be required to wear masks and show proof of vaccination with a piece of government issued ID.
