HAWES, Marie Therese – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Marie at her home while surrounded by her loving family on Monday, December 6th, 2021. Marie was in her 85th year. Cherished wife of 65 years to Don Hawes. Lovingly remembered by her children Garry Hawes (Brenda), Carol Hawes (Don), and Stephen Hawes (Sheila). Devoted grandmother to Deanna (Andrea), Candice (Samuli), Shawn, Christopher (Kelly), Amanda (Kyle), and great-grandmother to Mason and Kayla. Ever loved by her brother Albert Martins (late Monique) and their families in France. Predeceased by her siblings Madellaine Josquin, Manuel Martins, Antoine Martins, Daniel Martins, Raymond Rosslienger, Jeannine Huitric, and by her parents Emmanuel and Margaret Martins.
Hard work was always her forte. To help the financial situation in the early days of her marriage. In France, she worked in the dining hall at CFB Marville, then onto factory work in Toronto and School Street Crossing Guard. Back in Europe, her culinary abilities were recognized and she became the Hospital Dietician at CFB Baden in Germany. Returning to Canada, she prepared flight meals at CFB Uplands that fed dignataries of the Royal Visit and Russian Leader Mr. Kruschev.
The family wishes to thank all those who provided care and compassion daily since late May through till her passing. Namely Southeast LIHN, Meals on Wheels, Home and Community Care, Paramed Nurse (Linda Marie), Paramed Home and Personal Care, Hospice Quinte Volunteer (Kenna), Occupational Therapists, and a very special thank you to Dr. Tam of Northbrook Medical Centre who went above and beyond to relieve Marie’s pain. He made numerous long distance visits without request to ensure her ordeal was bearable.
Due to the current conditions with COVID, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated from St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Trenton at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations to Trenton Care and Share Food Bank would be appreciated by the family.
