Marie was born on august 14th, 1967, the first born child to Fred and Marie Robinson of St. John’s. She attended schools at St. Patrick’s, Presentation and Holy Heart of Mary high school here in town.
Marie grew up in a blended family, A total of 13 siblings in all. Needless to say life was never boring with such a large family. As a child Marie was very shy until you got to know her. As a person she was always fun to be around, she was fair, kind, compassionate, loving and selfless.
Marie met and married Danny Drew in 1986 & shortly after that they moved to Toronto in 1987. They moved back to Newfoundland and had their first born child Dawn Marie born in 1989. Work took them back off the rock and they moved to New Brunswick and then back to Toronto. While there they had their second child, Miranda Leigh, her family now complete.
Marie was not a big city girl and couldn’t stand the summer heat in Toronto. She moved back to Newfoundland to give her girls a better life; one where they could run and play freely outside with fear and worry that comes with living in a big city. Marie was a mother first and foremost everything she did was to enhance the lives of both her daughters, Dawn and Miranda. She single-handedly raised both girls on her own. She was always fair, a good listener [the girls could tell her anything], their best friend, trustworthy, they’re safe place. She gave the girls space to grow and learn to become the independent and confident women they are today.
Marie worked as a home care worker for 10 years she was a dedicated employee who was requested by the many clients she had worked with over the years.
Marie seldom did for herself… Her one pleasure was her love of clothes, she loved to shop even though she didn’t wear half of what she bought. There were many things that still have tags on them today.
In March of this year Marie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. This came as a devastating blow to her and her family. She had fought a courageous battle these past nine months. She spent time with all those who loved and supported her. She will be sadly missed by all those that had the pleasure of knowing her.
A Poem for Mother
By Dick Underwood
Mother, you were just a girl,
So many years ago.
You had your loves and had your dreams,
You watched us come and go.
You watched us make the same mistakes,
That you had made before,
But that just made you hold us tight,
And love us all the more.
We haven’t always thought about
The things that you have seen.
To us you’ve just been ‘Mother’,
No thought of who you’ve been.
But we remember now in love,
Your life from start to end,
And we’re just glad we knew you,
As Mother, and as Friend.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Marie Reta Drew 2021..
