Gloriously (and gently) lifted into heaven, Marie Marguerite (Kemp) Devine, on October 2nd, 2021 at the magnificent age of 94 ½ years!
Marie was pre-deceased by her husband Brendan, two daughters, Brenda and Carol, her sisters Carmel and Una, brothers Brian and Kevin and her parents, Ellen (Nellie) and Patrick (Paddy) Kemp.
Leaving to celebrate her life are her daughters Anne and Kathy (Hugh Scott).
Throughout her lifetime, Marie was known to be an accomplished seamstress, making most of her own clothes – even though her husband of 63 years owned a clothing store downtown! (The Big Six) In 1955, she was voted one of Canada’s ten best dressed women!!
Marie was very involved with the Dominion Drama Festival in her earlier years and costumed many stage productions as well as working in the costume department at CBC television for a couple of years.
She was very active over her lifetime, her hobbies included dancing, (she and Brendan spent many Saturday nights at The Old Colony Club dancing to live Big Band music); curling, golfing, shuffle board and tennis – most of which they did during their 20 winters in Florida! But her favourite pastime was horseback riding, which she did well into her 70’s and possibly early 80’s. She had a favourite horse at Rainbow Riders that she used to take out every week faithfully, and earlier in life, she had two horses of her own that she and Carol used to ride….
Marie will be remembered not only for her abilities and talents, but mostly for her kindness, composure and classiness! And she was the most amazing mother, in EVERY respect!
Thank you to all her friends who kept in touch with her and visited through these latter years….Carolann Mallam (who faithfully brought her Christmas gifts every single year!!) – and Roger Maunder, a family friend and financial advisor to both mom and dad for many years and who came to take mom out to lunch regularly after dad passed…..and Robyn Kemp who showed up for beautiful visits with mom, especially in this last week of her life here on earth, – and Sheilagh Guy Murphy, long time family friend, sometimes referred to as the 5th daughter!
Many thanks also to Ray Noseworthy who has been a support over the years (along with his wife Una) but especially during this time. Thank you to Pat (mom’s sister) and Cyril Morgan for their faithful and valued friendship over the years…along with all our beautiful cousins, both here in Newfoundland, across Canada and also Paul and John Devine and Gina Parker and Stephen Markley and their families in the U.S.
Special thanks to ALL THE STAFF at Kenny’s Pond Residence who not only took such tender loving care of her for the past 5 years, but loved her – and told her so! THANK you!! Xoxo
We’re not going to tell you to rest in peace mom….but rather, kick your heels up with dad once again!

Visitation at Caul’s Funeral Home, Wednesday, October 6th, 2021 from 10:00am to 2:00pm with burial to follow at 2:30pm.
