Maria passed away in hospital on Thursday February 11th, 2021 surrounded by her two daughters.
Maria was born to Jose Pinheiro de Lemos and Angelica Cristina de Vargas on February 4th, 1932 in Flamengos, on the Azorean island of Faial. Dearly beloved wife of the late Manuel Luis Naia, she was the loving mother of Lucia Magalhaes (Joao) and Maria Horne (Ken). She was the cherished grandmother of Cecilia de Sousa and Andrew de Sousa (Danielle Doan). Maria is survived by her beloved brother Humberto Lemos (Maria Nunes) and sister-in-law Lucia Noia as well as her many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her sister Filomena da Rosa (late Manuel) and sister-in-law Ethel Da Ribeira (Joao). She will be remembered as a sweet, hardworking and resilient woman. She loved the company of her many friends and her cats Pretinha and Pretinho but first and foremost she was a woman that would give and do anything for her family.
The family would also like to extend their thanks on Maria’s behalf to the staff at Villa Marconi for the great care they provided to her during her brief stay.
Visitations are scheduled for Wednesday February 17th, 2021 at 3pm and 5pm at the Hulse, Playfair & McGarry location at 1200 Ogilvie Rd. The funeral service will be held at 10am, Thursday February 18th at Paroquia Senhor Santo Cristo. Due to the pandemic restrictions the visitation and mass will have limited seating.
