Marguerite Stilwell Stevens 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Marguerite Stilwell (nee Stevens), loving wife of the late Alton Stilwell announces her passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 86 years. Marguerite was born in Coles Island, NB on August 30th, 1934, daughter of the late Thomas and Violet (Keirstead)
Marguerite was gifted in many areas of her life, which meant she wore many hats. She could easily have been a nurse, and if you were sick, she was the one you would want in your corner. She always showed compassion and encouragement. She cared for her own Mom for many years, as well as her husband Bud when he was ill in later years.
She did much of Dad’s bookkeeping for years when he operated his own garage, serving as his secretary as well. She was very creative as a gifted seamstress, and knitter. Many seemed to talk to Mom when they were troubled, as she was a great listener, and kind with counsel. She was her family’s biggest cheerleader, and so very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
It was always interesting to ask for Mom’s ideas if you were working on a project, as she was quite skilled at coming up with clever solutions, sometimes in design, and sometimes mechanical, much to Dad’s surprise. Mom loved Dad’s musical gifts, and enjoyed the friends they met along the way through music. She also enjoyed accompanying Dad boating, motorcycling, fishing, and hunting. They spent many summers camping “at the beach”, and at Dad’s homestead, and always enjoyed a few tunes around the campfire. Mom also had an incredible memory, which was quite impressive. She was the keeper of all the family stories and history, and willingly shared them with us on many occasions. Mom and Dad loved to go for leisurely drives, just to spend time together. He was the love of her life and she was his.
Most of all, Mom’s biggest love was her own family. To some of us, she will always be our Mom, and to some Grammy Bud. It is with heavy hearts we say she will be deeply missed.
Marguerite is survived by her children, Roger (Trish) Stilwell of Moncton, NB and Beth (James) Thompson of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Lisa Venn (Brad), Leigh Thompson (Chantelle), Julie Panisiak (Geoff Cole), Peter Stilwell (Christie) ; great grandchildren Madisyn, and Alysha Brown, Shelby and Myles Panisiak, Sierra Thompson, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her loving husband Alton Stilwell, infant sons, Bruce Cecil and Dale Robert, granddaughter Kayleigh Brown, sisters Betty Campbell and Wavey Connell, brothers Holly, Rupert, Archie, Monte, Cecil and James Stevens, and Bill Hawker.
Private Interment will be at the Coles Island Baptist Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements are in the compassionate care of Chipman Funeral Home Ltd. & Crematorium (339-6612). Memories and condolences may be shared through www.chipmanfuneralhome.ca.
