Margie was a very kind and easy to get along with lady with a
keen sense of humour. She appreciated her upbringing in Port Medway
with her grandparents; Leander and Mary Jane Phalen (Papa and Mama),
and often spoke of her Papa and Mama and the old traditional ways of
living back then on their own farm. She loved to send cards for all
occasions before her eye sight decline and was a very organized
person. She love old time music and enjoyed playing the piano or
omnicord whenever there was occasion to do so.
In Margie’s earlier years she worked as a
housekeeper in Halifax and then came back to Liverpool where she
boarded on Brunswick St. and walked to and from work. She worked at
Pentz’s Hardware store, the Canadian tire store, and at the
Advance office in Liverpool as a bookkeeper/editor/proof reader, which
she said was her favourite job. She left this job upon her marriage to
Royce Lohnes of Nineveh in March of 1961 at the age of 39, whom she
met at Saturday night music jams at the Feener’s, where she
played the piano. She also passed him and his co-workers with
MT&T every morning on her way to work. She loved to tell this
story.
Margie is survived by her half sisters Beulah Hirtle, Nina
LeGay and half brothers John (Lee) Nauss, Earl Nauss; and sister
in-law Elsie Lohnes. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews in
NS, NB, PEI, ON and Texas. She was predeceased by her husband of 35
years Royce Lohnes; half sister Hazel Connolly and brother in-law Fred
