Margaret Mildred McIlroy
Margaret Mildred McIlroy, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, for the past 17 years, formerly of Grimshaw, AB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 16, 2021, in Grande Prairie, at the age of 103 years, with her family at her side.
Margaret was born on August 20, 1917, in Peace River, AB, to parents who were both born in Bern, Switzerland and emigrated to New York, where they met and then settled in the Peace River area.
Many happy occasions were spent with her family. Nothing was dearer to her than home and family, and she kept a beautiful home with many keepsakes and treasured photos. She was admired for her beauty and loved shopping and fashion. It was important to her that she always looked her best. She enjoyed travelling throughout Alberta and British Columbia and took particular pleasure in hearing about other people’s travels.
She will be forever remembered and missed by her son Donald (Lorna); granddaughter Heather (James); great-granddaughters Medea and Brigid; and granddaughter Holly and granddaughter Tracy; she will also be missed by many nieces and nephews; her friends and her kind neighbours at Dieppe Manor.
She was predeceased by her husband Stanley McIlroy; father Henry Steffen; mother Rosalie Steffen (Blaser); brother Roy Steffen; brother Frank Steffen; Norman Steffen; and son William (Billy).
The family will be celebrating her life at a later date, to be determined.
