Margaret Crompton was born August 5, 1924 to Grace and Jock Graham in Casper, Wyoming. Passed in Vancouver March 9, 2021. Marg spent her formative years in the east end of Vancouver and was a star pupil at Templeton High. While still at Temp, Betty Crompton, mom’s best friend, introduced her to her brother Raymond. They seemed to hit it off and appeared to be a good fit, however, it wasn’t until Margo, as Ray affectionately called her, had shown her true grit and determination by trudging up & down Seymour Mountain to help build his ski cabin that Raymond realized he had found his life partner. They married May 5, 1944.
The mid 1950’s saw Ray and Marg ,with their extended families, renovating “The Hollies” on Gambier Island which remains a family legacy to this day. Next, for the ski loving family, was the construction of “Altagather” at Whistler in 1967. This ,indeed, became THE gathering place for the Crompton kids and all their friends. Mom welcomed all who came and was the consummate hostess.
Margo could never make time for the women’s lib movement as she was far too busy being a living testament to it….she ran her home, her career as Chief Financial Officer of BC Hardwood and Beatty Floors, her community commitment as superintendent of Ryerson CGIT, and still made time to enroll at UBC and complete a BA. She was an amazing mother, a strong advocate for women in the construction industry, a faithful contributor to her church, a hot skier and a competent golfer. She juggled all this while raising 3 children. Ken( Susan), Don ( Victoria), Barb( Garry & Sven ). Her devotion, total acceptance, and loving positive attitude to her 8 grandchildren, Mike, Jack(Carolyn) , Ben, Dan(Stephanie), Greg (Abbie) , Kate (Jason) , Nicole(Brent) , Tim(Alan) and 13 great grandchildren, created a undying, unconditional bonding spirit for the Crompton family. An amazing woman who set a high bar for us all. Special thanks to Kate—Grama’s Angel and the fabulous staff at South Granville Park Lodge. Please no flowers—If you wish– a donation to Young Life of Canada would be appreciated.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Margaret Margot Grace Crompton August 5th 1924 March 9th 2021..
