Marek, Leona
January 21,1920 – November 20, 2021
Leona Marek, nee Fast, passed away peacefully at Leduc Extendicare, on Nov. 20, 2021 at the age of 101.
Leona was pre-deceased by her first husband, Len Loewen (1995) and her second husband, Karel Marek (2007), also her parents, Peter and Netty Fast, and siblings, Linda, Pete, Ed, Martha, Mary and Arno. Leona is survived by siblings Susie (103), Ann (97), and Betty (95). She will be lovingly remembered by her son Wayne Loewen (Lorraine) and her daughter Carol Cornish (Dirk). Also lovingly remembered by four grandchildren, Cynthia (Cam)and Alfred (Stacy) -from Wayne and Shawn (Sharon) and Matt (Maria) -from Carol, and 9 great grand-children. During her life she was an accomplished seamstress making everything from her families clothes, and suit jackets to wedding dresses. There was hardly a sewing machine that could keep up with her. Leona worked for 30 years at what was then known as the Hudson Bay first as a seamstress sewing drapes, then a clerk and finally as a department head, when a serious bout with pancreatitus forced her retirement. After her recovery and retirement, she couldn’t just do nothing, so she took up oil painting, flower arranging, and some travel. All in all she was happy to do something, including baking buns, pies and fantastic meals for guests from nothing prepared in advance, rather than sit around. Everyone was always welcome at her table. Leona lived an active and full life. Remembered with love by numerous friends and staff members at Extendicare and Planeview in Leduc and Elim Lodge in Saskatoon.
Interment will take place at a cemetery near Dalmeny, Sask. beside her first husband, Len. A Celebration of life will be held at a later Date.
