Obituary of Malcolm A. MacNeil, New Waterford
It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our father, Malcolm A. MacNeil, 94, of New Waterford on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at home. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased in 2016 by his loving wife, Gladys.
Born in Dominion, he was a son of the late Malcolm N. and Mary (Gillis) MacNeil.
Malcolm was a member of the former Mount Carmel Church, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard.
He was not a traveller but would willingly take Ma wherever she wanted to go and was always eager to return home. The one other place where he was always content to be was Piper’s Cove where he spent many summers with his family. For many years he was a hard-working coal miner with the Cape Breton Development Corporation until his retirement.
He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Genevieve (Neville) Bishop, Strathmore, AB, Paula (David) Kearney, Antigonish, NS, and Sandra (David) Grechuk, New Waterford, NS; sons, David (Victoria), Calgary, AB and John Allan (Karla), Okotoks, AB; grandchildren, Samia (Colin) and Jason (Rebecca), Vincent, Malcolm (Mariana), and Steven, Kimberley (Jason), Ryan and Mitchell (Martha), Karl Malcolm and Ian, John Malcolm, Carl, Daniel and Michael; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Emma, Sawyer, and Simon; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, Malcolm was predeceased by his brothers, Norman, Charlie, John V., Josie, Francis, Alec and Adrian; sisters, Mary and Eileen.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 9, from 2-4 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Social distancing and masks are mandatory.
A private family Funeral Mass of celebration will take place in the Parish Church of St. Leonard with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
