Madeline Madi Best March 16 1995 October 19 2021 (age 26)

Obituary
Our beautiful, beloved Madeline Best (Madi) passed away suddenly but peacefully on October 19, 2021, at the age of 26. Her cause of passing is still unknown, regardless she leaves an unfillable void and tremendous sense of grief to the many people who knew and loved her.
Madeline was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. She attended school at Foundations for the Future Charter Academy. Madi was an excellent student and avid volleyball player throughout her junior and senior years. After high school, she went to the University of British Columbia, graduating with degrees in Political Science and Economics. Throughout her university years, Madeline worked at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC. She participated in the co-op program and internships, and studied for one semester at Mastrich, Netherlands. Madeline was proud to work with Deloitte in Calgary. Throughout this time, Madi babysat for a few special people and those families became her extended family. She was incredible with children and made a lasting impression on all ages.
Madeline left us far too soon, but she lived her life fully. She travelled to many countries and enjoyed capturing her adventures through her beautiful photographs.
Madi was enthusiastic about everything, from learning a new skill, to meeting people, to finding the perfect purple ice cube tray. Madeline was curious and full of laughter and giggles. She was courageous and strong. Madeline lived her devastatingly brief life with her heart, mind and eyes wide open to love, happiness, joy, and wonder.
Madeline was one of those rare souls who radiated kindness and joy. She truly woke up each morning and chose to be happy – her happiness was infectious. She was our shining light. Madi’s humour and enthusiasm for life inspired constant laughter and adventures. She was always up for new experiences and wanted to see everything this world has to offer.
Madi was silly and sweet. There wasn’t much that Madi did that wasn’t excellent, hilarious, or compassionate. She is marked by her kindness, artistry, dedication, discipline, loveliness, strength, infectious laugh, and beautiful spirit.
Madeline was happiest when she was outdoors. She was mesmerized by the natural world. Madi loved being in the mountains – hiking, biking, running, and adventuring with friends. She had a long list of the hikes she wanted to do and the people she wanted to come with her on each journey.
Madi was a real and true friend to those lucky enough to know her. She was honest and courageous in her relationships. Madi demanded the best from people, and she gave them her best.
Madi led with her positivity and curiosity. She was honestly interested in those around her, she actually listened and wanted to hear from people, and loved to share her enthusiasm with others. Madi was the kind of person who made everyone feel special.
Words cannot capture how intensely Madeline will be missed. She shone so brightly and was so, so loved.
Her twin, Indiana, is heartbroken by the loss of her baby sis. Indi promises to take Madi with her through every life adventure.
Madeline will forever be missed by her mum and stepdad Lisa and Laird Hill, father Chris Best, sister Indiana, brother Samuel, grandparents Shirley and Bill Best, great aunt and uncle Lorraine and Paul Rattell, her aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends (she loves you – Helen, Jade, Sam, Brittany, Brooklyn, and Bianca).
A memorial service will be held on Friday October 29, 2021, at 11:00 am at the Foothills Centennial Centre, 4, 204 Community Way, Okotoks, AB. Gravesite service to follow at the Foothills Cemetery, Black Diamond, Alberta.

  2. What a beautiful tribute to Madeline, she was obviously very loved. Your loss is unimaginable. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with your family. I’m so very sorry for your loss.

  3. My deepest sympathies and compassion Lisa, Indianna, Sam and family. Life will not feel the same without her near you, so don’t try to make it be the same. Don’t rush to change things, but time truly DOES heal, eventually. Or at least… lessens the pain.
