It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of the late Darlene MacLean (Somerton) at her home in Glace Bay on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at the age of 64.
Born in Glace Bay, Darlene was the daughter to the late Harry and Olive (Grant) Somerton.
Darlene graduated from Sydney Academy and went on to work at A&W in Sydney. After attending business college, Darlene held a manager position at Coles bookstore in the Mayflower Mall for many years. She enjoyed reading and listening to country music, especially Conway Twitty. Darlene will be missed by all who knew her.
Besides her parents, Darlene was predeceased by sisters, Linda MacNeil, Joan MacIntyre, Sally Christie and brothers, Robert, Herbert, Henry, Raymond, and John.
Darlene is survived by her son, Jeffrey MacLean, Sydney; daughter, Tammy Mauger, Gander, NL; sister, Shelia Gillis and brothers, Gary Somerton, and Jimmy Somerton. She is also survived by a grandson, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Memorial service to celebrate the life of Darlene MacLean will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Darlene may be made to the Cape Breton Branch, SPCA.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
