Mable Eileen Vandergrift December 4 1919 May 31 2021

Mrs. Eileen Vandergrift of Okotoks, Alberta passed away at the Tudor Manor on May 31, 2021 at the age of 101 years. Eileen was predeceased by her husband Cliff on March 17, 1991. She is survived by her daughters Sheila (Joe) Fluery, Ardeth (John) Neish and Colleen Hendrickson (Jim Strickland); 6 grandchildren Jody Fleury, Nicole Fleury, Orin Neish, Ryan Neish, Lacy Stav and Tyrell Hendrickson); 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Eileen was born in Fillmore, Saskatchewan along with 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Being the youngest, she helped her father with all of the farming after her siblings had left home. After marrying, she followed dad to numerous jobs cooking for a crew of men in an old cook car with no fridge, water or power. Eileen and Cliff worked building roads in B.C., contract haying, owning a sand and gravel business in Drayton Valley and ranching north of Turner Valley.
She was a hard worker, full of spirit and bravery. She even rode dad’s rope horse from Turner Valley to Calgary so he could compete in the Calgary Stampede.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother, a gentle soul with an unpredictable wit and amazing sense of humor.
Rest in peace Mom, you will always be in our hearts.
No service will be held.
