Lynda’s Obituary
FAIRN, Lynda Marie, 73, of Greenwood and formerly of Nictaux, passed away peacefully at home Thursday morning, 28 January 2021, after a brief illness. She was born in Middleton to the late Lloyd and Hettie Coldwell. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her second husband, George Fairn, in 2018. She is survived by her daughter Alison Videto and her fiancé, Dean Douthwright and his children, Emma and Kaiden, of Hampton, NB; sister Helen (George) Schaffner of South Williamston, and their children Debbie, Wendy, and Scott and their families; brother Ron (Ginger) Coldwell of Boston and their sons Eric, Craig, and Adam and their families; George’s son Michael (Belle) of Middleton; George’s daughter Kim (Francis) Van den Heuvel of Middleton; Michael’s children: Andrew (Holly) of Churchville, Pictou Co., Ashley (Derek) Lawrence of Westville, Pictou Co.; Kim and Francis’ children: Channa of Costa Rica, Hayley Van den Heuvel (Chris Lam, and daughter Skylar) and ‘Baby Lam’ of Petitcodiac, NB, and Quinn Van den Heuvel (Stephanie Hill) of Halifax. Lynda is also survived by Michael’s grandchildren Brenton and Annabella Fairn and Ethan and Hunter Lawrence; and by her first husband, Doug (Fran) Videto of Middleton. She was also predeceased by George’s great-granddaughter, Lilly Lawrence, in infancy.
Born and raised on a farm in lower Middleton, the little blonde girl who loved to dress up also “knew her way around a tractor”. As a young adult, she was off to Toronto with only $300. in her pocket, a sewing machine, and love in her heart from her supportive family. After a few years, she returned to the Valley to start a family, become a mother, and work at various administrative positions, including as a Teller at Royal Bank in Middleton. She felt a true sense of ‘home’ with family connections, long lasting friendships, and community pride.
She was a great ‘cheerleader’ and advocate for all she believed in with an ever-ready spirit of volunteering. Her community service included being active in the past with MRHS Reunion Committees, Canadian Cancer Society, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. She especially enjoyed and valued her time with the elementary and junior high schools’ reading programs.
She was a voracious reader and her eloquent way with words, her impeccable sense of style, and her very creative, gifted touch were all displayed in her poems, paintings, photography, quilting, sewing, and knack for interior decorating. Her family and friends will remember her vibrant spirit, the spark in her eye, and her ‘tell it like it is’ attitude. She had a positive, grateful appreciation of life and was fiercely protective of those she loved. Motherhood was Lynda’s greatest accomplishment and joy. Her daughter, Alison, will remember her as a most loving, nurturing, protective mother and role model.
Her marriage to George joined two souls who were destined to be together. Their life was like a honeymoon that never ended. She recently said, “I take with me so much love but hopefully leave you with enough to pay forward.” So, in the spirit of Lynda’s love and generous heart, the family welcomes you to perform a ‘pay it forward’ act of kindness in her memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lynda’s memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of your choice. A private family graveside service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
