Obituary For Lyle Marshall Scribner
Lyle Scribner, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Grande Prairie Care Centre at the age of 88 years.
Lyle was born in Pouce Coupe, BC, on July 24, 1933, weighing 3.5 lbs and showing his strong will right from the start. He was raised on a farm in Sunset Prairie, West of Dawson Creek, BC. Lyle left school at an early age to work on the family farm, in a sawmill, on a survey crew; and any job he could find to support his family. He worked his way up the Alaska Highway, landing in Whitehorse, YT, working for the Army and getting a ticket as a Steam Engineer. In Whitehorse he met Lois, and they started a family. In 1963, they moved south for Lyle’s new job in the power plant at CFS Beaverlodge, where he was later promoted to Chief Steam Engineer. When the base closed in 1988, he had proudly achieved 34 years of service. Lyle then worked for 5 years as a Maintenance Supervisor for the Grande Spirit Foundation until his retirement.
Lyle and Lois raised their family in Wembley, AB, and moved to Grande Prairie, in 1991. When he wasn’t working for a living, he built 8 houses from the ground up. Lyle enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, working in the garage, and helping neighbors with their projects. He was so proud to be a member of Lake Saskatoon Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. He loved to be busy and socialize.
Lyle will be sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, Lois; children: Elizabeth (Brad) Jones, Karen Scribner, and Glenn Scribner; grandchildren Brandon Jones (Kim), and Christine Jones (Shawn); as well as 4 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Grande Prairie Care Centre for allowing him to wander the halls and visit other residents in his wheelchair, and for the excellent care he received. More than anything, we appreciate your efforts to find a way for Dad and Mom to spend their last months together.
An invitation-only Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 15, 2021, at 10:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Lake Saskatoon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wembley United Church (P.O. Box 534, Wembley, AB, T0H 3S0), or to a charity of your choice.
