Lyle Hayes August 23 2021

Obituary
HAYES, Lyle James
July 23, 1947 – August 23, 2021
“If I stay here just a little bit longer, If I stay here, won’t you listen to my heart …” (Rod Stewart 1975)
Surrounded by his loving family, Lyle passed away peacefully at City Hospital after a series of strokes and a 26 year battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Lyle was born in Spalding, SK, son of Leo and Ruth (nee Davis) Hayes, where he grew up on the family farm with his Davis cousins nearby. He loved to participate in any sport available, but without the benefit of a school gymnasium, it proved to be difficult! Lyle realized early on that farm life did not suit him, and later graduated from the U of S with his Bachelor of Physical Education (1970) and Bachelor of Education (1972). Two years of teaching physical education in Humboldt saw him replace that school gymnasium life with a 30 year career in the Saskatchewan Department of Culture, Youth and Recreation. Lyle loved running and going to the gym, thunder and lightning storms, dogs, warm weather, a thick slice of rare prime rib, Joyce’s baking, collecting leather jackets and watches, golfing with his buddies, and owning really nice vehicles! But most of all, he loved and was so proud of his children and grandchildren. They meant the world to him! Lyle is survived by his loving family: his wife Joyce (nee Mutala), daughter Krista Hayes, son Brian Hayes and wife Candice (nee Simon), grandchildren Graysen and Maëlle, son-in-law Marc-Antoine Lamothe, twin brother Lynn Hayes and wife Wendy (Fairmont) and sister-in-law Cydney Hayes (Saskatoon). Lyle’s younger brother Garry predeceased him in 1998. Also surviving Lyle are his sisters-in law and brothers-in-law in the Mutala family: Marg and Alan Bells (Regina), Angie Wollbaum (Saskatoon), Ernie Mutala (Saskatoon), Pat and Tibor Kutasi (Moose Jaw), Alene Mutala (Edmonton), Don Mutala and Ji Young Kim (Vancouver), Marion Mutala (Saskatoon) and Rocky/Edward (Vancouver), plus many nieces, nephews and cousins in the extended Hayes, Mutala and Davis clans. In lieu of flowers and cards, please consider a donation to STARS or the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, Saskatoon. You can honour and remember Lyle by raising your glass in his memory … he will be missed.
“And when the night is cloudy there is still a light that shines on me,
Shinin’ until tomorrow, let it be…” (Beatles 1970)
