Obituary
With heavy hearts and heartfelt sadness, we announce the passing of our Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma Louise Block who gained her angel wings on Saturday, March 27, 2021. She passed peacefully with her family by her side and the song Country Roads playing.
Louise Irene Block (Norman) was born April 22, 1946. She was the oldest of nine children born to Gordon and Irene Norman. She developed a love for farming early in life and was her Dad’s right hand for many years. Louise married Roger Block August 29, 1964 and together they had three children, Carol, Diane, and David. Together they farmed and worked to raise the children and enjoyed life on the rodeo trail with the Block family until Roger passed away suddenly in 1982. Louise later moved to buck Lake where she carried on her love for farming with Bob Stewart. After Bob’s passing in 2013, Louise spent her next couple of years with her children, grandchildren, and great grandson going fishing, farming and going to rodeos and chuckwagon races making memories that they will cherish forever.
Louise had many passions in life. If she wasn’t calving cows, you could find her gardening, caring for her countless flower beds and pots, filling her many bird feeders, at the Ponoka Stampede or baking pies. She was well known in the community for her pies and proudly served them to anyone who wanted a slice. We always had bets on the way to her house for holidays about the number of pies that would be there when we arrived there was always more pies than people…. Just in case company showed up!
Louise is lovingly remembered and survived by her 2 daughters Carol (Dan) Leach and Diane Block (Daryl); her grandchildren Kyle Leach (Dani), Jackie Wirch, Corey (Courtnee) Leach, Brett Wirch (Julie), and Cody Leach (Abby); her two great grandsons Connor Wirch and Liam Leach; her brothers Kenny, Dwayne (Lillian), Murray (Jackie), and Merle (Sheila); sisters Bernice and Marilyn (Fernie); and a host of extended family and treasured friends. She was predeceased by her parents Gordon and Irene Norman; her husband Roger Block; son David Block; brother Neil Norman; sister Lorraine Lychak; and Bob Stewart.
Louise will always be remembered by her family for her love of cows, flowers, family, rodeos and chuckwagon racing and feeding everyone.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Center for their care and love for our mom and grandma. It was easy to tell that she was more than just a patient to them as they had cute pet names for her “Louisiana” and “Weezie”.
Due to the current Covid restrictions in place, there will be no service at this time. There will be a celebration of Louise`s life held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Louise`s memory to the Ponoka Long Term Care Centre where she spent her last years being cared for, or the Alzheimer Society .
