Obituary
Lorne Francis Cassidy passed away peacefully on November 5, 2021. Lorne was pre-deceased by the love of his life Eileen Cassidy in April 2021, shortly after they celebrated their 70 Wedding Anniversary. The depth of Lorne’s love for Eileen was enormous and he never recovered from losing her.
Lorne was born on July 12, 1930 in Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan to Arthur and Grace Cassidy. He was the youngest of three children having two older sisters, Eileen and Lois. He is survived by his children, Donna Doan, Debbie Hall, Doug Cassidy (Lara); grandchildren Cameron (Kim) Doan, Carlie (Aaron) Stewart, Crystal (Aaron) Stewart, and Matthew Cassidy; as well as his great-grandchildren.
Lorne spent his entire career as a banker with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Lorne was proud and gratified by his contributions to the bank throughout his career, advancing from a small branch in rural Saskatchewan to leadership roles in Regina and later in Calgary.
Throughout his life, Lorne’s priority was providing for his family. He strove to balance a challenging career with family time and was eternally grateful to Eileen for the support that she provided to him at home.
Family vacations were of great importance to Lorne. They started with a canvas tent, and progressed through several trailers, ensuring his family experienced many happy adventures together. In his last days, he would spend time reminiscing through slide shows these times with Eileen and his family.
Lorne and Eileen took up skiing in their forties, becoming avid skiers and skiing across western North America. Lorne recalled, with amazement and pride, skiing Corbet’s Couloir at Jackson Hole in his fifties!
It’s impossible to speak of Lorne without including Eileen in the same sentence. The two people were committed to each other and their family beyond all else.
After retiring, Lorne and Eileen spent the winters at their home in Arizona, and the summers at their home in Calgary. They enjoyed numerous activities and social occasions with a large group of like-minded Snow birds. Lorne loved ball room dancing and the Saturday night socials were a highlight.
They spent the summers hosting family and helping raise their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bompa, as Lorne was known to his grandchildren, provided a gentle guiding hand and was always willing to listen and to offer sage advice, sprinkled with a bit of humor. Always able to make wise and quick decisions, one of Lorne’s classic expressions was “The road is scattered with squirrels that couldn’t make a decision”.
Lorne’s family will miss him immensely.
A private family ceremony will be held.
