Obituary of Loriene Smart
April 30, 1925 – December 20th, 2021
This Christmas, we adoringly remember our Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma, Loriene Smart. Otherwise known to all as “GG”.
Loriene was born in April 1925, on the Saskatchewan prairies at the hamlet of Caron where she met and later married Gordon Smart. Together they started a family and moved to the BC mountains in the little mining town of Kimberley. GG dedicated the following decades to raising her two daughters and later, participating in the daily life of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mom was happiest when surrounded by her family. She expressed her love in many ways which included countless hours baking, knitting, crocheting, and playing cards. She attended every sporting event of the next 3 generations. She enjoyed traveling with Cheryl and her grandkids to Kelowna, Spokane and camping at Wasa. Another favorite pastime was spending the day out with her daughter Diane shopping and going to the casino where she would always have a “tall white rum and coke, no ice” in her hand. A meal at Trickle Creek or a perfectly BBQ’d tenderloin was the ideal end to their day.
Mom is survived by daughters Cheryl Orr and Diane Foulkes (special “Son” Jim); Grandchildren/Great Grandchildren Michael (Rebecca), Ethan (Suzan), Malik & Kahlil, Gage (Courtney), Larissa, Tatum, and Evanny; Shawna Foulkes, Baylie (Russell), Keagen, Sheri Mything (Aryn), Aidan and many other nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband Gordon Smart, brothers Bill (June), Arnold (Alice), Granddaughter Tracy Orr.
All the memories with our beloved GG will live in our hearts. Be at peace. We will cherish you
forever and live our lives with you in our hearts forever.
There will be a small gathering with family to celebrate her life.
