LORIE: A DAY IN THE LIFE- Her Passions
Family
Lorie’s love for family was felt from one province to another. She had an incredible bond with the love of her life, David. She spoke with her Mom Thelma every day, even when she was unwell. She had an amazing love and friendship with her other mother Vivian for over 40 years. The relationship she had with David’s brothers (and families) was effortless and full of love and laughter. The love she shared with her daughters & their husbands was undeniable. She and Jay shared so much laughter with their zany sense of humour. Planning trips to the mountains and staying with her daughters was always a top priority. The pride and joy of this family, and Lorie especially is her granddaughter Scarlett. There was no shortage of sleepovers, tea parties and baking. Grammy spent a lot of time in the past few months with her girls, husband and sweet granddaughter Scarlett. Those times will never be forgotten in any of our memories.
Friends
Her unwavering friendships and support. Lorie had her weekly Friday lunch dates with the tennis ladies, her regular Lorie’s Ladies gatherings, her Blue Lake friendships, Neighbourhood “Street” Ladies, Victoria Beach friendships, Vistana Orlando friendships and many others that brought so much joy to she and her family. When times got tough, her tribe of love showed up for her and the whole family. The support and community we’ve all felt from those that loved her dearly will never be forgotten.
Entertaining and Cooking
Lorie loved hosting dinner and parties. She was a gourmet cook, known for many things but probably best known for her amazing carrot cake and a love for Red Wine. David and Lorie enjoyed the sanctuary of their backyard with many of her loved ones.
Travelling
Lorie loved camping in a tent with David and the girls. Her favorites places to camp included the Rocky Mountains, Kicking Horse Campground, and Clear Lake. She also loved to travel to Emerald Lake, Elkhorn and friends’ cabins in Victoria Beach.
She loved flying around the world with David (and often family) and enjoying beautiful locations, especially Greece, England and Costa Rica. Nothing topped travelling to Alberta to see her daughters and their families. Exploring the Mountains and enjoying a nice family dinner were some of her favourite things. Florida, Mexico, travels to Niagara on the lake and special festivals that she and David enjoyed.
Sports/Games
Lorie loved playing Tennis and loved watching it. Kildonan Tennis Club was a special place for the whole family. Lorie had been a member at KTC since 1979 and served on the Board several times. Lorie loved to golf and watch it on TV. She played in a ladies league with friends, and with David on their many travels. Lorie loved the Winnipeg Jets of the NHL and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL.
Games
Lorie loved games and puzzles, especially Bridge.
Pets
Lorie’s Persian cats, Sheetah, Topaz, Nikita and most recently Miko Starr.
Music
Lorie loved music, especially when her husband sang for her while playing guitar. Her favourite song was “Norwegian Wood”, but she will always be remembered for an unprompted singing of “Dancing in the Moonlight” at Midnight the eve of her passing.
Lorie was love and light. Everyone she met knew they were touched by an Earth Angel and were left in awe and wonder at her loving energy and amazing life-force.
Lorie Lynn (Lorelie): Selfless, Strong, and Compassionate! Lorie will be missed by so many, but she has left a legacy of Love, Kindness, Energy, Happiness, Laughter and Wonder that everyone will remember her by.
